If you dance with the devil, you will be burned. If you play for Kim Mulkey, you will be disqualified.
It’s been almost a week since we woke up to the news that Brittney Griner is free after the United States entered a prisoner exchange with Russia for arms dealer Viktor Bout. Since then, we have read and heard stories about how Griner stick with the crew on her plane, want to talk for hours and immerse yourself in human interaction. Or, how in her first workout in months, The first move she does on the basketball court is a slam dunk.
But, do you know what we still haven’t heard or read about?
A single thing from Kim Mulkey.
Griner’s former coach at Baylor, now at LSU, was always about two things: A great coach and a terrible person. But, at some point, one of those things made more sense than the other, and that’s now. After this season, every player on LSU’s women’s basketball team must enter the transfer portal — and every rookie must sever ties with Mulkey.
Sounds a bit extreme?
Yes, it should. Extreme measures were the only thing Mulkey let us work with.
A few months ago, a Reporter asked Mulkey if she has any thoughts on the best player she’s ever coached – because she hasn’t said a word in public about the situation.
“And you won’t,” she replied dismissively.
If this is how she reacts to a player who helped her win the national championship after a 40-0 undefeated season, none of her current or future teams stand a chance. just a name and a number on the list to her.
It’s sad that, Mulkey’s silence when Griner was imprisoned and freedom is not shocking the way she is in history show itself as. This is a woman who wants the NCAA Quit testing for COVID-19 in the Final Four. She is also credited with practically begging Trump to invite her team to the White House, and she has supported and publicly supported a Baylor sports division that was involved in the alleged worst sexual assault scandal we used to see on the university campus. She was also once accused of telling her players that they had to hide their gender. “It’s a recruiting thing. The coaches think that if it looks like they’re ignoring that, people won’t let their kids come play for Baylor.” Griner told ESPN in 2013.
Kim Mulkey doesn’t care about his players. She proved to us that status doesn’t matter. You can be the best she’s ever coached or just the walker at the end of the bench, it doesn’t matter to her. If you need support, she won’t raise a finger to send a tweet, nor will she take a few minutes to say kind words at a press conference.
Every player at LSU should clean out their lockers. Your trainer isn’t interested in Brittney Griner, which means she’s definitely not interested in you.
