Mad Mike will tackle Pikes Peak on a 4-rotor Mazda3

New Zealand drift star “Mad” Mike (no, not that) Whiddett is incorporating a rear-wheel drive, powered by rotary power Mazda 3 hatchback to participate in the 2022 run of Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. This 1,200-horsepower giant will pass the 100th lap of the world famous “Racing to the Clouds”.

Thin details at the moment, but its four-digit power figure and rear-wheel drive are sure to come together spectacularly. This year’s Hill Climb race is scheduled to take place the weekend of June 26. Organizers made sure that the annual Fan Fest in Colorado Springs goes according to plan, as well as a celebration of the race’s popularity. All of that could change due to the ongoing pandemic, of course.

But despite hypothetical concerns about the event, organizers say they anticipate “unprecedented” interest from all parties (producers, teams and individual entries) for the year. now. While the event was celebrated for its centenary in 2016, a hiatus during the Second World War (1942-1945) made 2022 the 100th official event to be held.
