Danish star Mads Mikkelsen will reunite with A royal relationship director Nicolaj Arcel for the epic drama King’s Land.
Arcel wrote the screenplay for the film with Anders Thomas Jensen. Film adaptation of the Danish best-selling book Captain and Ann Barbaraset in the mid-17th century. The story follows the attempt of the Danish King Frederik V to capture, cultivate, and colonize an area unforgivingly populated by wolves and highwaymen.
Louise Vesth (Melancholia, Nymphomaniac) will produce King’s Land for Zentrope. The epic production will kick off filming in Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic, starting in September.
Cost 8 million euros. Zentropa describes the film as one of the company’s biggest films in years.
Mikkelsen is in Cannes, starring in David Cronenberg’s Crime of the future in the competition lineup for the Cannes Film Festival.
