Maisie Williams, Freddie Highmore to lead comedy ‘Sinner V Saints’ – The Hollywood Reporter
Game of Thrones stars Maisie Williams and good doctorFreddie Highmore’s is set to be set in comedy Sinner v. Saints by director Tim Kirkby (Fleabag, VeepNetflix’s Coming The Pentaverate).
Set in 1970s LA and London, the film is based on a real-life scandal that has caused a stir around the world, involving an eccentric MENSA beauty queen who goes to great lengths to prevent Mormon church steals her sexual obsession: a bad Mormon missionary.
WestEnd Films is launching international sales on Sinner v. Saints in Cannes.
Mark Williams (Accountant, Ozark, Honest theft) and Andriana Williams, head of Zero Gravity’s Inspiration Department, are producing.
“It’s rare to find such a comprehensive true story with compelling characters and strange twists,” said Andriana Williams. “Dirty passion, silly rule-breaking, and outlandish antics made the news around the world at the time and can certainly entertain you today.”
Kirkby added: “I have never read the dream of an unstoppable craze about a script that takes the reader on a journey of rock ‘n’ sex, obsession and religion as Sinner v. Saints. The haunting first love is a great premise, and overlays a true story about a kidnapping-related killer, quirky side characters, and an age of free love, and you had a cocktail of something very strong. It’s been fun to roll around in the world of our antihero Joyce McKinney. ”
The script was written by Jill Hoppe and based on the book Joyce McKinney and the Mormon Case Managed by Anthony Delano and international news stories.
Filming will begin in the first quarter of 2023 in the US and UK
