Maldives Dreaming – Westin Miriandhoo

Jack and I got back from the Maldives a few days ago, and I can’t lie, I’m having withdrawal symptoms. Waking up to the sound of the ocean lapping at the stilts of the overwater villas and the warm sunshine makes every thought for ‘class’. It’s a place where afternoon snorkeling on the reef feels like a way of life and for a few days you’ll remember what a clear mind really is. Such is the beauty of the Maldives and the job of new resorts (or any resort for that matter) like Westin Miriandhoo to provide the backdrop for, and that, they did!

The Westin Miriandhoo Resort resides at the northernmost tip of the capital Male, on an 11-acre island in Baa Atoll; big enough to have everything you’d expect at an island resort but cozy enough you can walk from start to finish in 10 minutes. The easiest (and most beautiful) route is the 30-minute seaplane ride from Male which, to be honest, (as long as you’re not too stuffy!) is part of the Maldives experience and quite an impressive ride!

We actually split our stay in two, trying out both the island and overwater suites with each suite featuring unique elements. There’s nothing like going straight to the unspoiled beach for a sunset stroll, but yes, it’s hard to beat the iconic floating villas. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience a few accommodations in the Maldives right now and the Westin Miriandhoo overwater pool suites are truly amazing! The pools are huge, much larger than typical Maldives pools and sunbathe most of the day. There is a large deck that we had lunch on most days because it was so picturesque!

The overwater suites are also designed at an angle making them completely private to your two neighbours. The only chance for someone to look up on deck is if they are snorkeling or playing water sports. Tip: Some of the overwater villas face where seaplanes will fly in and out, so if you want maximum privacy I’d ask to be on the opposite side of this!

Why Westin?

With hundreds of islands and resorts in the Maldives, all sparkling with iconic white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, I think it’s hard to tell which one is. the right to go for.

For me, the focus Westin puts on health is a huge draw, and it shines through any of their Maldivian properties more than any other place I’ve stayed. This is the first time on vacation that Jack and I are really looking forward to working out every day, and that’s all because their gym is a beautiful bright and spacious area overlooking the trees. palm and ocean. It feels so far from normal everyday life when a 60-minute relaxing workout goes by, while I usually count down the seconds for a 40-minute class! There’s also a brand new outdoor tennis court that makes for perfect sunset walks.

From being able to borrow your entire New Balance workout kit for free, lavender sleeping oil next to your Westin Heaven bed in the evening (That’s one thing… they’re really big and laid-back as can be!) to make your own fresh juices for breakfast in the morning, needless to say this resort have a comfortable wellness box checked! There’s also a dedicated watersports center where you can purchase weekday snorkeling kits, canoes, paddle boards, etc as well as (reasonably priced) one-time experiences Life is like dolphin watching excursions and colorful deep sea diving.

The Dolphin boat trip was one of the most special parts of our stay! We saw the dolphins again and again swim up to the front of the boat, happy to say hello. While naturally they can’t guarantee sightings, there’s an 80% chance you will, well worth the trip! We even saw a dolphin mummy with its ‘calves’ that will forever be in my mind! I post an Instagram video here if you’d like to see;

Exactly, spas don’t lose a side…! No background music needed when this is the setting! There are sheets with transparent bottoms just where it fits your head so you can watch the underwater world go by while having a super relaxing massage. Yes, please!

There are three restaurants and a bar dedicated to sunsets at the Westin Miriandhoo resort. The Pearl is a fine-dining Japanese restaurant located on a jetty over the water with dishes as exquisite as the landscape. The all-day dining spot is housed in a bright and modern restaurant called Island Kitchen, which serves everything from Indian, British, Chinese and Maldivian cuisine. A personal favorite is the king prawn curry, it’s exceptional!

Finally, there’s Hawker, which is the epitome of Relaxation Island life. It is nestled among palm trees with an open kitchen serving authentic Asian street food. Shelling crabs are to die; order that along with fresh papaya salad and you will laugh 😉

Jack and I had the most relaxing and energetic 6 days in one very long time. Romantic nature by its ravishing scenery but Westin Miriandhoo is so much more. The wellness facilities, cheerful service, modern yet authentic interior and exquisite cuisine make it a worthwhile trip whether as a family vacation or a honeymoon destination secret.

If you have any questions about Westin or favorite resorts, leave me a comment to let me know what you think, I’d love to hear from you!
