Malikah Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X, dead, officials say
Shabazz, 56, was found unconscious by her daughter at her home in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD.
Police said the death appeared to be of natural causes at this time.
Bernice King, daughter of the late Martin Luther King Jr., offered condolences.
“I am deeply saddened by the death of #MalikahShabazz. My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr. Shabazz became pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak, when Mr. Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah,” King said on Twitter.
Shabazz is the youngest of six daughters of Malcolm X.
CNN has reached out to the Shabazz family and medical examiner’s office.
Last Thursday, two men convicted of the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X were exonerated in a trial.
New York County Superior Court Administrative Judge Ellen Biben recommended that the convictions of Muhammad A. Aziz and the late Muslim Khalil be dropped.
