They say that the leaders of Congress Mallikarjun Khargewho was also the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha, Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Surjewala may attend the meeting on behalf of the group.
Banerjee convened a meeting on June 15 at the Constitution Club in the nation’s capital to discuss a proposal for a consensus Opposition candidate.
Several opposition parties will likely attend the meeting and conduct joint candidate discussions.
India’s presidential election will be held on July 18.
With the numbers in favor, the ruling NDA gets half of the electoral votes and its candidate can easily win with the support of several independent parties such as the BJD, AIADMK and YSR -CP.
