Man arrested after police standstill in Cascade Town

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police detained a man after negotiating with him by barricade in his home on Saturday morning.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to reports of a home invasion in Plainfield Township, inside the mansion when the break-in occurred. Upon discovering the break-in, the homeowner recognized the suspect’s vehicle and confronted him as he entered.

After a brief confrontation, the homeowner ran to a safe neighbor’s house and the suspect fled in the vehicle.

Upon arriving at the scene, the delegates discovered that the suspicious vehicle had left the area. However, because he was driving at a high speed, his deputies did not chase him because of safety concerns.

Minutes later, delegates again discovered the suspect was near his residence in the Alto area. A traffic stop was started and he fled again, eventually hitting the police car before driving home and running inside. Deputies established a siege around the suspect’s residence, located in section 8800 of Summerset Woods Drive SE.

The Sheriff’s Office units responded to Summerset Woods and negotiations began. Police said no one else was with the suspect in his residence.

Deputies arrested the man at 9:20 a.m. Saturday without any incident.

The incident is still being investigated by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
