Man hiding in landing gear on flight to Miami
An American Airlines flight from Guatemala to Miami on Saturday was revealed to have one more passenger on board: A man stowed in the plane’s landing gear.
A video posted on Instagram by local social news site Miami Only in Dade shows that crew members appear to have spotted the passengers after the plane reached the gate.
The man from American Airlines Flight 1182, which landed around 10 a.m. ET Saturday, was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The maintenance worker who recorded the video refused to speak for fear that he would lose his job.
American Airlines said in a statement that the flight “was met by law enforcement due to security concerns. We are working with law enforcement on their investigation.”
Dan Vasquez, one of Only in Dade’s content team said, “We received this video and talked to the person who shot it, he was so scared and couldn’t believe that someone would survive this. .”
“Can you imagine that kind of wind pressure?” Vasquez said.
The incident is reminiscent of the situation in August when US troops were evacuating from Afghanistan and hundreds of civilians were clinging to departing planes. A human body was discovered in the well of a C-17 cargo plane that landed in Qatar after departing from the international airport in Kabul.
