Man threatens Topeka woman with chainsaw after breaking into her home


TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A man is in jail after he drove his truck into a mobile home in North Topeka and threatened residents with a chainsaw.

Around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, Topeka Police Department said officers were called to 1819 NE Burgess Ct. with reports of a possible hostage situation.

While en route, officers said they were informed by dispatch that several calls had come in reporting a mobile trailer in the area had been hit by a vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, TPD said Jayden Robert Evans, 20, of Topeka was placed in Shawnee Calibration Division Co. for Serious Assault, Serious Child Urgency, Criminal Threat, felony causing property damage.

The homeowner told 13 NEWS she was in the kitchen at the time of the incident and it felt like an earthquake. She still can’t get into the trailer to get any of her belongings because it’s unstable. She also noted that Evans threatened her with a chainsaw after he beat her into the house.

The homeowner testified that Evans had accused her and her fiance of taking her daughter hostage.

The investigation revealed that there were no actual hostages in this situation and only minor injuries were reported.
