Manchester United end their date with Erik ten Hag with only signing and agreement with Ajax | Football news
Manchester United’s appointment of Erik ten Hag as their next regular manager was all but done with the signing and frank agreement with Ajax to complete the process.
The deal is expected to have an initial three-year term, with the club having the option to enforce it for a further 12 months.
Sky Sports News reported on March 31 that Ten Hag was in the key position to win the job over Mauricio Pochettinowith sources close to the manager and Ajax revealing the compensation – understood to be under £2m – and how to handle a notice has been discussed at this point.
United want to be sensitive to the Dutch side’s showdown against PSV Eindhoven in the KNVB Cup final on April 17 and the fact that they are in a tight title race.
However, Ajax do not want the speculation to continue as it is still proving to be a distraction. They removed requests from British journalists and did not grant access to press conferences to prevent questions about the manager’s future.
United insists that a deal is not done, but Sky Sports News determined last week that only procedures were outstanding with all key details agreed in principle.
The formation of Ten Hag’s coaching staff at Old Trafford still needs to be detailed, but neither side is concerned about that process.
Ajax has been more than a hindrance in reaching a deal online, with the club having invested in not impeding the advancement of their managers and players.
