Mariners’ Bryce Miller sets starting record against Yankees
If Seattle Marines their way, Bryce Miller, Logan Gilbert and George Kirby will have their rotation fixed for years to come, possibly even facing New York Yankees in the American League knockout round
So consider this week’s three-game series between the teams in Seattle, starting Monday, as a likely preview.
Miller (3-1, 1.15 ERA) is scheduled to start the series opener against New York’s Domingo German (2-3, 3.75) in a right-handed match.
Miller, the sailor‘ top pitching prospect heading into the season, having been called up earlier this month, the same as Gilbert in May 2021 and Kirby in May 2022
“The main thing I’ve learned from just watching Kirby and Gilbert over the last few years is that the first time I went to the major league camp this year, I could tell that the year before, Kirby was in the same spot and the year before. That’s it, Gilbert has been in the same position and they’ve been successful in the major leagues for the past two years,” Miller said on Seattle Sports’ “Wyman and Bob Show” on Friday.
Miller was the first pitcher to make a minimum of six innings and bring in no more than four hits in his first five major league appearances since at least 1901. He scored three zeros. scoring, including in his final, 6-1 win over Oakland A on Wednesday. In that game, he delivered two hits and one walk while hitting six out of six innings.
Miller took AL Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray’s spot in the rotation after the left-hander started just one game this season before undergoing Tommy John surgery.
“When you lose a guy like Robbie Ray and then you have a young man like that come and take an opportunity and run after it, it’s amazing,” sailor manager Scott Servais said. “Great to see.
The sailor are leading 6-1 at home in their 10 games after beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 on Sunday thanks to a Eugenio Suarez strike, three runs in the 10th inning.
The U.S army outlasted visiting the San Diego Padres 10-7 on Sunday as Aaron Judge hit his 15th AL lead of the season
New York was horrified in the sixth inning when first pitcher Anthony Rizzo was hit in the head during a collision with Fernando Tatis Jr. of San Diego while playing cards.
What did Rizzo leave the game with U.S army called a neck injury but seems to have passed concussion protocols after the game
“Rizzo is fine. (We’re) just cautious there,” U.S army manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s gone through all the tests and is fine. We’ll just keep an eye on him (Sunday night) and (Monday).
Boone said if Rizzo feels okay, he will be in the starting lineup for the series’ opening game in Seattle.
While Miller will have to face U.S army for the first time, the sailor somewhat familiar with German. He is leading 2-0 with an ERA of 3.60 in his three career encounters, including two starts.
The German will start his first game since May 16, after being suspended for 10 MLB games for using too much grip enhancer.
Duc told reporters he plans to use less turpentine to fight sailor
