Marlins signs 2021 WS MVP Jorge Soler on a three-year deal

One of last year’s World Series champions found a new home.

Jorge Soler has agreed to a three-year deal with the Marlins, as first reported by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported that the agreement cost $36 million and potentially opt out after each of the first two seasons.

Soler has earned himself such a big payday after a great performance last season and especially the World Series. He had some key moments for the Braves in their run to the title, including a three-way mammoth homer in Game 6 that led to the overall victory.

With Miami, he found a spot near the top of the order and provided a powerful bounce to a squad that finished second to last in terms of slippage last season. The Marlins also placed 28th in home and 29th in OPS, two areas Soler will also help with.

Soler started last season with the Royals, but performed much less effectively than later with the Braves. He scored just 0.192/.288/.370 with 13 hosts in 94 games against Kansas City, who delivered him with Atlanta on the deadline.

The change of scene was huge, as he hit .269 / .358 / .524 with 14 home players in 55 games to end the regular season. He then went on to hit the .242 ball with three hosts in season after season, with each of his big flies coming in the World Series.

The best season for Soler came in 2019, when he led the major leagues with 48 players hosting for the Royals. He’s scored 80 goals at home in over four seasons with Kansas City, after three years with the Cubs in which he went deep 27 times.
