Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai yesterday teased a new announcement and today he revealed it’s his own YouTube channel titled Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games.
As the title suggests, this channel will focus on game development and what exactly makes games fun to play. It will apparently cover a “multiple topics” related to this, and you can check out his first video right now (above). Sakurai has also uploaded some other content that fans and aspiring developers can enjoy.
Sakurai went on to mention that he plans to upload videos in both Japanese and English, and will aim to provide actual gameplay footage whenever possible. Just out of caution, though, he might focus on classic movie scenes rather than more recent stuff.
He has also been approved by Nintendo to showcase Smash Bros. development and design documents. written by him – so Smash fans can look forward to that. And just to be clear, Sakurai explained “Nintendo is not involved in this channel” and that it is Sakurai’s own personal project.
He’s not looking to profit from it either, so there doesn’t seem to be any advertising. And he’ll keep everything in most of his videos “short and sweet” because he has to pay his video editors and translators. He also won’t often ask viewers to Like, Subscribe or hit the notification bell.
