Mattel is Suing Rap Snacks Over Nicki Minaj ‘Barbie-Que’ Chip
OH! Companies have repeatedly brought lawsuits left and right, and now a well-known urban brand company has been hit with a lawsuit. According to TMZ, Mattel, the company that owns the Barbie brand, is suing Rap Snacks over their Nicki Minaj-themed chips. Chips with the name ‘Barbie-Que’, a pun on the ‘Barbie’ title that Nicki Minaj refers to herself, were posted on the company’s Instagram page on June 30.
Although the brand that sells drinks, noodles and more never gave a release date, Mattel claims Rap Snacks “made a deliberate and calculated choice to launch a new product line using Mattel’s famous BARBIE brand.” The company stated that although they disagreed with the chip release, they readily agreed to Rap Snacks. Mattel claims Rap Snacks has never responded, “thus forcing Mattel to bring this lawsuit as a last resort to protect its interests and prevent consumer confusion.”
In a report from Yahoo News, the lawsuit states, “The association was so obvious that upon seeing the packaging, a representative for Defendant’s celebrity partner asked if Rap Snacks was authorized by Mattel. Indeed, Rap Snacks has never requested or received any such permission.” Along with the chip being discontinued, Mattel is also seeking damages.
For now, Rap Snacks has yet to speak out about the lawsuit, but in an initial press release announcing the chips, he said, “Nicki Minaj is undoubtedly one of the most disruptive forces in music history. rap. You’re talking about a woman who rewrote the rules of hip hop culture and just happened to be an extraordinary entrepreneur. He continued, “It only makes sense that as a brand disrupting the snack industry, we unite to push it further. This is the beginning of a legendary partnership.” .
While the news of the lawsuit may shock Barbz, they can rest assured that the Queen will not be affected. Nicki Minaj is not in the suit! Roomies, what are your thoughts on this?
