Mavericks’ Christian Wood broke his thumb
Mavericks forward/center christian wood has been diagnosed with a broken left thumb and will be reassessed next week, announced team.
Wood picked up the injury in the second half of Wednesday’s loss to Atlanta, according to the Mavs. He was able to complete the rest of the game, which seemed to bode well for the timeline of his return – he finished with 22 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists. and 2 tackles in 35 minutes. The wound was in his non-shooting hand.
Across 42 games (17 starts, 29.0 minutes) in his first season with Dallas, Wood is averaging 18.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.3 interceptions on shot. 535/.385/.737. The 27-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent for the season.
The Mavs have report opened talks with Wood’s camp about a four-year, $77 million extension, although the team appeared to prefer a shorter-term commitment. If they can’t renew the big guy, he could be banned from trading for the next few weeks.
