Melanie Lynskey, Karl Urban, Thomasin McKenzie, Jemaine Clement Cast in ‘I, Objec;t’ by Andrew Niccol – The Hollywood Reporter
Oscar-nominated New Zealand filmmaker Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Truman’s show) has assembled an all-Kiwi-popular cast to lead the newly announced live/animated film. I object.
Hollywood Reporter may reveal that Melanie Lynsey (yellow jacket, Don’t Look Up), Karl Municipality (Lord of the Rings, Boys), Thomas McKenzie (jojo rabbit, Old) and Jemaine Clement (Avatar: The Road of Water, Flight of Concords) will play the lead role in the project that The Exchange is about to present to international customers at Cannes. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group will handle the domestic rights.
I object The story revolves around 10-year-old Tom, who is grieving the loss of his father and unable to contact the people in his life, hiding in the everyday objects around him. Pop’s cans, suitcases and countless everyday objects reveal their true faces and talk to Tom, helping him on his healing journey.
Currently in pre-production, I object is expected to begin primary photography in the fourth quarter.
Niccol will direct and write the script for the project, marking his second film in Marche with Lord of War next part Lords of War. Producers include Daniel Beckerman (Witches, Falling) for Movie Scythia, Chris Yurkovich (slash/Back) for Good Question Media, Timothy White (I am the mother, son of a gun) for Southern Light Films and Alex Ordanis (Emmy). Jordan Hart (Dear Mama) of Good Question Media will act as the project’s executive producer. I object is a product of co-production between Canada and New Zealand.
