Miami Beach imposes curfew after two deadly shootings
Miami Beach again imposed a curfew on Sunday night after a violent and deadly spring break over the weekend, where two people were shot dead in separate incidents as well as noisy crowds filled the streets. .
in one videotapes sunday post, Mayor Dan Gelber said that the number of people and guns created an “uncontrollable danger.”

“We don’t claim spring break in our city,” says Gelber. “We don’t want spring break in our city. It’s too noisy, too disorderly, and too difficult for the police.”
The curfew began around midnight Monday and was lifted at 6 a.m., city officials announced in a press release.
Authorities are considering another curfew from Thursday until March 27. The restrictions are focused mainly on South Beach, a popular tourist destination for spring breakers.

Under the curfew, people must leave the business before midnight.
Hotels are allowed to work later to serve their guests, however only restaurants can deliver.
The curfew does not apply to local residents, emergency services, hotel guests, and anyone else traveling to and/or to work.

Much of the curfew stems from two separate but deadly shootings that occurred days apart.

Police arrest suspects in this weekend’s deadly shooting, both captured on a shocking video
Officers in that shooting attempted to chase a suspect, police revealed on Twitter.
The alleged shooter has been identified as Dontavious Leonard Polk, 24, of Fort Lauderdale, according to news stations citing police reports.
Polk remains charged with first degree murder as of Monday morning, CBSMiami report.
He was walking with three other men on the sidewalk when he walked over to the victim and shot at him. NBC 6 South Florida.
The victim, who has yet to be identified, fell to the ground as Polk shot him several more times before fleeing the scene.

However, police arrived in the area and chased Polk and knocked him down, where a gun and shell casings were recovered.
According to NBC 6, a second person was injured in the shooting but is expected to recover. Another man died and another was injured after a separate shooting had taken place two days earlier, scaring club and restaurant patrons.
No one involved in deadly shooting is city resident, mayor says
Authorities found a weapon at the scene and detained one person, but no further details were released Monday morning.
Mayor Gelber went on to note that no one involved in the deadly shooting was a city resident.
“In both cases, police were literally seconds away from the incident and arrests were made within minutes,” the mayor said. “That said, it’s clear that even the unprecedented police presence cannot prevent these incidents from happening.”
The city placed a similar curfew last year after another series of shootings on Ocean Drive.
And in 2021, police arrested more than 1,000 people and confiscated dozens of guns amid another violent spring break.
