Michigan plane crash: 11-year-old only survivor

An 11-year-old girl was the sole survivor of a plane crash in Michigan that killed four adults on Saturday, police said.

Charlevoix County Sheriff Lt. William Church said the victims were aboard a twin-engine light plane when it crashed near Beaver Island, located at the northern end of Lake Michigan, about 40 miles from the city of Charlevoix. miles to the northwest.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the Britton-Norman BN2P plane crashed around 2:30 p.m. ET.

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) was conducting a training flight in the area and responded after receiving an Emergency Locator Alert sent to them about the accident, according to a tweet from the USCG Great Lakes.

“Helicopter crew members landed and offered to assist and were able to hoist and transport an 11-year-old woman and an adult male to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, MI,” the tweet read.

A spokesperson for the USCG told CNN.

Sheriff Church identified the crash victims as Kate Leese and Adam Kendall, both new to Beaver Island, Mike Perdue, from Gaylord, his unnamed 11-year-old daughter, and a pilot whose family Authorities do not release at this time. .

Two dogs also died in the crash, authorities said.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash, the FAA said.
