Michigan State Football Adds Tate Myre as Honorary Member of Recruitment Class

(WXYZ) – Michigan State Football on Wednesday morning said it had added Tate Myre as an honorary member of its recruiting class. Myre was one of four students killed in the Oxford High School shooting

“We are honored to recognize Tate Myre as the first Spartan Dawg of the class of 2022,” Head Coach Mel Tucker said in a video. “A Spartan Dawg is defined not by how successful he plays on the field, but by the character they display, the leadership they bring to their community and to extraordinary individuals like Tate Myre , heroism.

“Tate was and always will be a Spartan Dawg,” added Tucker.

Myre plays for Oxford and is part of the class of 2023. Just a week before the shooting, Myre made a recruitment visit to the University of Toledo.

“Tate Myre has a great work ethic, sportsmanship and boundless love for his teammates,” Tucker added in the video. “He has a passion to one day play for Michigan State. This passion is paired with an unstoppable drive and the pursuit to get there. Tate’s steadfastness in and off the field raised the bar for everyone who knew him.

He was honored in the Big Ten Championship with patches on the Michigan Team uniform, and the family was on the field tossing a coin.

Myre, Hana St. Juliana, Justin Shilling and Madisyn Baldwin were all killed when a student opened fire at the school on November 30. Six other students and a teacher were injured in the shooting.
