Michigan vs. Iowa, updates, highlights from the 2021 Big Ten championship game

Michigan overcame a major hurdle when it beat Ohio State last week. It was the Wolverines’ first win over the Buckeyes since 2011 and the first of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s tenure.

But with Saturday’s loss to Iowa in the Big Ten title game, victory over Ohio State will suddenly make much less sense. It will once again be symbolic of Michigan getting to a big hill and not being able to clear it, something that has plagued the green and corn since Harbaugh’s arrival.

THAN: Meet Hassan Haskins, Michigan RB Who Burned Ohio State

However, this is definitely one of the best teams Harbaugh has had on his return to Ann Arbor. Wolverines, like the Hawkeyes, have been known for strong running and defending games this season. In fact, it’s likely that the best player on the pitch for both teams won’t be a midfielder.

For Michigan, it will most likely be full-back Aidan Hutchinson or full-back David Ojabo commanding the Wolverines defence. Hutchinson registered three times against Ohio State and is now the Wolverines single-season record holder in that category. Ojabo, meanwhile, provided a nice addition, with 11 saves and 11 bags.

THAN: Michigan vs. odds, trends, betting predictions. Iowa

But Iowa’s offensive line boasts Tyler Linderbaum, the nation’s premier center. He will likely be tasked with creating holes for star running back Tyler Goodson while Michigan’s offensive line will have to do the same for Hassan Haskins. Haskins scored five touchdowns against Ohio State.

This game is a must-win for Michigan and could help define Harbaugh’s legacy at his alma mater. However, a win at Iowa has the potential to knock the Big Ten out of the playoffs entirely.
