Microsoft’s Xbox TV streaming device coming in the next 12 months
According to a report, Microsoft may launch the Xbox streaming device in the next 12 months. The streaming device is said to allow users to access movies, TV services, and a library of games through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The report also says that Microsoft is also working with Samsung to develop the South Korean company’s Xbox game streaming app for TVs. The news comes days after Microsoft announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming users will now be able to play Fortnite for free on Android, iOS and Windows devices.
Citing people familiar with the matter, VentureBeat (GamesBeat) report that the device will probably look like a Amazon Fire TV Stick or one Roku-like puck. As for its functionality, the device will allow users to access movies and TV services – as we do with the Amazon Fire TV Stick, for example – along with their game library through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
More, Microsoft is reportedly working with Samsung to develop an app that could allow Samsung smart TV users to grant access similar to an Xbox streaming device. Both of these are slated to launch within the next 12 months.
The move is seen as a way to attract more users into the Xbox ecosystem. It should be noted that the Xbox console also allows users to download apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, among others and allow streaming. Microsoft is working hard to attract more casual gamers.
Recently, the company, along with Epic Games, announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming users can now play Fortnite Free on Android, iOS and Windows devices. The move will also allow users, including PC gamers, to stream Fortnite on their devices’ internet browsers just like Netflix, regardless of hardware specs.
