Minnesota teen who made a video on social media was shot at 5 years old: Police
A 5-year-old boy was shot dead on Thanksgiving Day after a Minnesota teen accidentally opened fire while filming a video on social media, authorities said.
After 10 p.m. Thursday, police in Brooklyn Park, located just north of Minneapolis, arrived at a home in response to reports of a 5-year-old being shot.
Officers arrived at the scene and “attempted first aid; however, the child died at the scene”, The Brooklyn Park Police Department said in a statement.
A preliminary investigation by Brooklyn Park police into the child’s death said about four to five young men had placed a firearm at the home, and a 13-year-old boy was handling it like a group of children. trying to put out a video social media.”
While attempting to record the video, police said at one point the 13-year-old boy shot and killed the 5-year-old. Investigators also determined the teen shot and killed the child.
Brooklyn Park Deputy Sheriff Mark Bruley told CBS Minnesota The incident took place inside the garage of a family, the adults present at this home. Investigators are not sure if anyone was supervising the children or how they obtained the guns.
Bruley said: “This is a very unfortunate accident that needs a very detailed investigation and is currently underway. “We as adults have an obligation to make sure (children) don’t have access to them.”
The police department said the 13-year-old boy was arrested and is currently being held at a nearby detention facility. Bruley added that the teen could also face manslaughter charges.
