Mitch Marner releases statement on carjacking

Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner is speaking for the first time since he was robbed of his Range Rover at gunpoint outside a Toronto movie theater earlier this week.

In a statement released on Twitter, Marner called the incident “scary” and thanked the Toronto community for its “unbelievable” support following Monday’s carjacking.

“To all my fans, friends and teammates, and the entire Maple Leafs organization – thanks for all of your positive messages over the past few days,” Marner said in the release tweet. on Wednesday.

“It was a scary situation, but we were safe and doing well. Thank you all – your support means the world to us. ”

His statement followed what police called an “opportunistic crime”, in which three suspects, two armed with a gun and another armed with a knife, approached Marner’s vehicle in the Cinema area. Cineplex Queensway.

The victims obeyed and the suspects got into the car to escape.

Events take place in the Islington Avenue and Queensway area around 7:45pm on Monday

Toronto police say this is one of 60 carjackings they have responded to so far this year, compared with a total of 59 vehicle thefts reported in 2021.
