Morgan 3-Wheeler design sketch previews next cycle car

In preparation for the release Its new 3 wheeler, Morgan released a series of design sketches. They are all very different, showing possible directions for the next iteration of the bike. One thing is for sure, though: you won’t mistake them for anything other than a Morgan.

The designs reveal that the Tricycle is evolving over time. NS car run could easily be mistaken for something from the early 1920s (or a book by Richard Scarry, for that matter), but the next iteration will be a huge leap forward in design. For Morgan, that means something inspired by the early Jet Age. Sure, that era may be 90 years behind us, but for Morgan, a company that still uses wood as the main structural material in bodywork, the move to late 1930s styling will be the future.

Various sketches show a more streamlined fuselage, possibly made of polished aluminum to give the appearance of that jet fuselage. Some of the ideas even show how clever the vertical and horizontal stabilizers are. Many had closed noses, some had a conical shape like that of an airplane, others like a locomotive of the time. Others have a teardrop shape on the rear, reminiscent of the fenders that American heated planes built from jet fuel tanks in the 1950s.

Interestingly, some sketches call it “tourist options,” including nice things like a windshield or two leather side straps just big enough to hold a duffle bag. Others have a closed compartment that looks just big enough for a briefcase.

Both exposed and enclosed suspension options make rings, as do single and double headlight designs. Some illustrations even show a covered cockpit – go ahead!

No matter what it looks like, the next Morgan will get rid of its V-twin engine for a Ford-sourced three-cylinder. If it’s European By Fiesta mill, that should translate to at least 85 horsepower, 80 pound-feet of torque even if Morgan doesn’t tune himself.

Even with this design change, the Morgan 3-Wheeler will still be old school. It’s refreshing to see a company stick to its guns, building bikes with the same basic layout since HFS Morgan designed its personal bicycle in 1908. The next 3-wheeler. Morgan’s will launch in 2022.
