Morgan Doughty, Ex of Alex Murdaugh’s Slain Son Paul Murdaugh, Sues Over Boat Crash ‘Disfigurement’

South Carolina lawyer humiliated Alex Murdaugh was facing new legal trouble thanks to a personal injury lawsuit filed by the ex-girlfriend of his murdered son.

Morgan Doughty was dating Paul Murdaugh — who was found shot dead in June 2021 along with his mother, Margaret, in a murder mystery that attracted worldwide attention — when he was involved in a boat crash in 2019 that killed 19-year-old Mallory Coast.

Doughty, who was also aboard the boat, is now seeking punitive damages from Paul and Maggie Murdaugh’s mansions for the “permanent and disfiguring scars” she suffered in the disaster, according to a petition. The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday.

The lawsuit alleges that Maggie Murdaugh talked to her son shortly before the boat crashed and “wasn’t able to stop” him from driving even though he was clearly intoxicated.

She is also alleged to have “liked” social media posts showing her son underage drinking.

The lawsuit alleges that both Paul Murdaugh’s parents were negligent because they allegedly failed to act knowing he was “going to drink excessively and drive.”

Paul Murdaugh is facing felony charges, including boating under the influence of death, at the time of his murder last year, a fact that has sparked widespread speculation that the two events may be related.

Miley Altman, another survivor of the 2019 boat crash, also filed a lawsuit against the Murdaughs this week alleging the parents caused the tragedy because they “knowingly and knowingly allowed their underage son to buying and consuming alcohol illegally”.
