MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) – A grand jury on Tuesday convicted a Muncie woman of drug trafficking leading to the death of a pregnant woman and the fetus she carried for eight months, Delaware County prosecutors said. in a press release.

Jessica M. Campbell, who turned 34 on Thursday, could face between 20 and 40 years in prison when she was sentenced at 9 a.m. on January 31 in Delaware Circuit Court 2.

“This marks the first time in Delaware County history that a drug dealer has been criminally held accountable for killing another person by illegally selling narcotics,” the statement said.

The law used to impeach Campbell went into effect on July 1, 2018.

Muncie police said Campbell on July 30, 2018, allegedly sold heroin to Ashley Nicole Rudisill, 27. Police just before 9 a.m. on July 31, 2018, discovered Rudisell unresponsive on the floor of the room. guests of a home on the 4400 block of North Old State Road. 3. Rudisell and her unborn baby died at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Rudisil was arrested a few days later.

Police later learned Campbell had sold Rudisill a lethal dose of fentanyl instead of heroin.

In the statement, the prosecutor warned other drug dealers that if their clients died from a drug overdose, he would prosecute the traffickers and hold them accountable.
