Blogging - My first year
MY SURPRISE LIFE

Can’t believe it’s been a year since I published my first post on the My Happy Life blog! It started as one of my New Year’s Resolutions 2018 to start blogging. I don’t really think about it much except it’s a way for me to have a creative outlet. I’ve done some travel to a few amazing places and have had some really great experiences and opportunities in my life. I thought, why not share my stories. Hence the birth of the blog My BeYOUtiful Life. After a year of blogging, I thought I would share some of the things I learned during my first year.

first.) Blogging is not as easy as it seems. I think blogging is simply a way of keeping an electronic diary. It does and it isn’t. There are many other things. You must first choose a niche market. If you’re a newbie like me, I’d ask, “What is a niche?” Basically, you choose a category or a topic you want to blog about. I really don’t have just one niche, so I decided to have a Lifestyle blog, my blog is about travel, fashion, food, family and more.

Then you need to come up with a name for your blog. This took a while for me. Mainly because you want something creative and catchy and also when you choose your domain name you want to make sure it hasn’t been taken. Domain? That’s the name for your website URL. I know, I know… what the hell is she talking about?!? Believe me, I don’t know what these mean either. 2.) You need to be consistent. What I mean here is that to be a successful blogger you need to post content consistently and often. I wasn’t really good at posting consistently, that’s probably why I wasn’t as successful as I wanted. You may have heard of bloggers generating six or seven figures from their blog. Obviously, I’m not one of them, but maybe someday (insert the dreamy eyes icon here). I work full time, so consistent content creation hasn’t happened yet. I’m lucky if someone reads my blog. Hellooooo… .is anyone out there?

3.) Twitter is a great place to connect with other Bloggers. I’ve met some really great bloggers on Twitter and had the opportunity to post on a few of their blogs. This is a great way to get their readers to see my blog and as a result I can get more subscribers. I have also been asked to do some sponsored posts. Some of my proud accomplishments like the Liebster Awards, Sunshine Awards, and Blogger Recognition Awards all come from the network on Twitter.

4.) There is a lot of blog information on the net. If you are thinking of starting a blog, just know that there is a lot of information out there. Some are free and others will charge you as little as hundreds of dollars for blogging courses. I absolutely want to invest in myself, but be an informed consumer and do a few things before committing.

5.) Sometimes it’s better to just finish it than make it perfect. At the cost of trying to publish the perfect article, I ended up procrastinating and not posting at all. I’m trying to get better at this. So if this post seems rushed or short, it’s because I really just want to be able to bring this up with you in a more consistent effort (see #2 above :).

So you have it. Things I learned from my first year of blogging. I’m still studying. My goal is to one day be one of those six or seven character bloggers. Until then, I’m only happy if someone is reading my blog. LAUGH!
