What a surprise. The last NFL franchise to be integrated – the team was named after a racial slur until 2020 – has rotted. So rotten that Congress decided to dig it all up way to see how far it has spread, and discovered that it is visible as soon as the skin is removed and runs all the way to the core of the poisonous fruit is Washington Commanders.
in one 78-page report, Congress detailed the despicable work Daniel Snyder has done as a franchise owner and also how the NFL hasn’t taken enough steps to stop his reign of evil. ta. The specifics are crude, but a paragraph from the second to the last page perfectly sums up the NFL’s disgusting dysfunction in the nation’s capital:
“The results of the Commission’s investigation, as presented in this report, are clear: sexual harassment, bullying, and other malicious behavior pervades the workplace at Washington Commanders and is perpetuated by the office of fear instilled by the owner of the Team. The NFL, through an investigation conducted by Ms. Wilkinson, learned that Snyder and other Team executives not only failed to prevent this misconduct, but engaged in it themselves. The Federation also learned that Mr Snyder and the Command organization used a variety of tactics to intimidate, monitor and pay for whistleblowers, and to influence and impede Ms. Wilkinson’s work. Instead of seeking real accountability, the NFL linked its legitimate interests to Mr Snyder, failing to stop his abusive tactics and burying the findings of the investigation.
Snyder did what he wanted when he wanted and disregarded the humanity of the organization’s female employees. This report is littered with people detailing – not anonymous – blatant misconduct by Snyder and others in the organization.
The fact that Snyder has managed the franchise on the pitch is bad enough already. A franchise that won three Super Bowls in the 20 years before he bought, has won two playoffs in the 23 years since. Much of the fan base that literally rocked RFK Stadium with their enthusiasm, has been drained of all passion by Snyder. It’s been 15 years since Sean Taylor’s tragic death and the only thing the franchise has is when the defense decided to line up with 10 players in the first playthrough of the first game without him. Any other attempt is a disgrace.
Snyder is said to be selling the franchise soon. Better late than never, but it took too long. He was pressured by the owners of the naming rights to the stadium to eventually change the franchise’s racially insulting moniker. Now, in 2022, we find out in a Congressional report that he has hired private investigators to go to people’s homes to try to intimidate them so they won’t speak out against him. .
His lawyers, Jerry Jones, and Republicans may scream that this investigation is as much a left-wing smear campaign as they want it to be, but the congressional committee has spoken to more than 150 people. The conclusion they drew was a New York Times report, Washington Post and other places were correct.
The NFL franchise’s workplace in Washington became toxic during Snyder’s time as an owner, and there weren’t enough measures to prevent it. The NFL can hold some responsibility for not acting quickly or decisively enough to try to stop this madness, but Snyder is the main issue here.
For more than two decades, Snyder has run the brand without much regard for decency. He should have been forced to sell his franchise years ago. He left the sport as quickly as possible, but his removal now cannot undo the damage he has done to people and the reputation of the franchise.
