NASA says Earth escaped the wrath of a dangerous 600-foot-wide asteroid, but another is headed our way

According to NASA, a giant asteroid is heading towards Earth. This dangerous asteroid has just passed by our Earth, narrowly missed.

Earth just got lucky! Even so, by a very small margin. After CZ31 2016, which flew past Earth on July 29, Earth escaped another asteroid strike today. At 600 feet, an even larger asteroid was heading towards Earth today, July 30, but it has now passed our planet. If this dangerous asteroid hits Earth, it could cause a huge disaster for us. However, it’s too early to celebrate because another large asteroid is headed our way on August 4, according to NASA. Read on for more details and find out if the next asteroid could hit us.

On July 25, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of NASA, reported on its website that a 600-foot-wide or 183-meter asteroid, named 2013 CU83, will come close to Earth. The year 2013 in its name represents the year it was first discovered. According to its orbit prediction, the asteroid made a safe trip through the planet at a distance of 6.8 million km. The distance may seem huge to some, but astronomically and considering the sheer speed of these space rocks, this distance could be covered in a short amount of time.

Asteroid, as big as a skyscraper, narrowly missed Earth

Due to its size and proximity to Earth, this asteroid is classified as a potentially hazardous asteroid. This means that the asteroid has a real (albeit very small) chance of hitting Earth in the future. If this asteroid hit the planet, a major disaster could have been caused. In addition to its destructive impact, which will likely flatten hundreds of square kilometers in area, it will also cause shock waves across the planet, massive earthquakes and tsunamis.

But the threat is not over yet. According to NASA, on August 4, a 710-foot-wide asteroid named 2022 OE2 will approach Earth. This is the first time this asteroid has been observed close to Earth, so there is a lot of uncertainty and lack of data about this asteroid.
