NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope finds oldest galaxy near Big Bang

NASA’s James Webb telescope has discovered the oldest galaxy more than 13 billion years away.

NASA’s Most Powerful James Webb Space Telescope released its first images to the world just a few days ago and now it has established a record by exploring the most distant galaxy ever. It found a galaxy that existed 13.5 billion years ago. Named GLASS-z13, the newly found galaxy dates to 300 million years after the Big Bang, about 100 million years earlier than anything previously identified, said Rohan Naidu of the Center for Physics Harvard Astrophysicist shared. “We are likely looking at the farthest starlight that anyone has ever seen,” he told AFP. New Scientist tweeted, “Discovered by Hubble Space Telescopegalaxy GN-z11 was the previous record holder, dating back 400 million years after the birth of the universe. ”

For non-inverting objects, the farther away the objects are, the longer their light takes we. Although GLASS-z13 is believed to have existed in the earliest era of The universe, its exact age is still unknown. It is thought to have formed any time within the first 300 million years.

GLASS-z13 was captured in so-called “early release” data from the orbiting observatory’s main infrared camera, known as the NIRcam.

Follow report, galaxy GLASS-z13 appears as a red blob with white in its center after being translated to the visible spectrum. Naidu and his team of 25 astronomers around the world submitted their findings to a scientific journal, and the research is also published on a “preprint” server. The study has yet to be peer-reviewed, but it has resonated within the global astronomy community.

NASA Chief Scientist Thomas Zurbuchen tweeted: “Astronomical records are collapsing and more are faltering.” He added, “Yes, I tend to cheer only once the science has clear peer-reviewed results. But, this looks very promising.”

What should bring joy to Naidu, his discovery is also supported by a team of astronomers led by Marco Castellano who have been working on the same data.
