NASA’s newest Mars rover, Perseverance, encountered 100 mud devils in its first 90 days on Mars after touchdown in February.
Small whirlwinds on Mars, referred to as vortices, aren’t unusual. They are often tens of metres large and several other kilometres excessive, with wind speeds upwards of 100 kilometres per hour.
