NBA Draft 2022: By Numbers


It’s that time of year again!

The NBA It wastes very little time transitioning from the end of one season to the beginning of the next, and that process begins with its annual draft.

This year, the Big Apple is hosting the big event, and for 58 potential customers, there has never been a bigger night in their young lives.

Let’s find out the numbers about the NBA Draft 2022.

When: Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Where: The Barclays Center in Brooklyn will host the NBA Draft for the ninth year in a row (excluding the 2020 draft, which is virtual). It will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN.

58: There are only 58 options in this year’s draft, instead of the usual 60. Milwaukee and Miami lost the second round picks due to tampering in free agency.

4: There are two teams with four huge picks in the draft: San Antonio (Numbers 9, 20, 25, 38) and Minnesota (No. 19, 40, 48, 50). Nine teams have three choices, while six will choose twice. Eight franchises have an option.

0: Unless they are active in the commercial market, the four teams will view the draft inactive, with no current picks for their names. they are Brooklyn, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix and Utah.

6: John Calipari and Kentucky Forest Cat known as the force regularly present in the draft each year. Two different Wildcats teams own the record for most draft picks from a school in a single draft, with six picks each in both 2012 and 2015. They are tied for 1977. In fact, another troupe led by Calipari holds the record for first picks in a single draft. 2010’Cats saw five players advance in the first round.

4: Kentucky isn’t the only school with a long history. Duke make a claim for the most #1 overall picks in draft history (Zion Williamson, Kyrie Irving, Elton Brand, Heyman Art). It’s no surprise, however, that Kentucky is second with three. UNC and Kentucky share the record for most lottery picks in one draft (four) since the lottery expanded to 14 teams in 2004.

Five Green Demons (Paolo Banchero, AJ Griffin, Trevor Keels, Wendell Moore Jr. and Mark Williams) has a chance to enter this year, while the school has had at least two players enter the lottery in four of the past seven years.

43: Kentucky leads all college programs with a staggering 43 first picks. Duke is just behind with 40.

2004: Last time Orlando Magic first pick overall, they landed Dwight Howard, a future Hall of Famer. They are looking to capture the same magic this year.

twelfth: A college freshman has been drafted first in each of the past 12 years. The final non-freshman student selected first overall was Blake Griffin in 2009.

5: If Auburn’s Jabari Smith hearing his name was called in positions 1-5, he would become the fifth top in the history of the school, along with Charles Barkley (1984), Chuck Person (1986), Chris Morris (1988) and Isaac Okoro (In 2020).

Chet Holmgren have a chance to be By Gonzaga highest draft pick since Adam Morrison finished third overall in 2006, while Purdue’s Jaden Ivey likely to be the first to enter the lottery since Glenn Robinson was first initiated in 1994.

There are also a host of international prospects, including Hugo Besson (France), Dyson Daniels (Australia), Ousmane Dieng (France), Khalifa Diop (Senegal), Nikola Jović (Serbia), Ismael Kamagate (France) and Jean Montero (Dominicana Republic).

11: At least 11 potential customers with family ties in the NBA or WNBAconsists of:

– Purdue’s Jaden Ivey (mother Niele played five seasons in the WNBA, was the assistant coach of Grizzlies and now the coach Notre Damewomen’s team)

– Duke’s AJ Griffin (Adrian’s father is ‘s assistant) Torontoplayed nine NBA seasons)

– Mark Williams of Duke (sister Elizabeth was the WNBA All-Star in 2017)

Rutgers’ Ron Harper Jr. (father played 15 seasons in the NBA, winning five titles)
