SACRAMENTO – 6-foot-9, 200-pound athlete Kiir Kiir Chol has signed the National Letter of Intent and will begin competing at Sacramento State as a full-time freshman in the fall.
Chol, a native of South Sudan, comes to the Hornets from the NBA Global Academy in Australia, where he has played since January. Before that, Chol spent two years studying at the NBA Africa Academy in Senegal.
He became the fifth signing by Hornet’s freshman head coach David Patrick, who went on to add scale to Sacramento State’s roster. Chol is the fourth player to be signed 6 foot-9 or more tall, including Hunter Marks 6-9 Hartford, 6-9 Oklahoma Akol Mawein and 7-1 UC Riverside Callum McRae.
Chol is also the fourth foreign-born player in his class, as he joins an Australian pair (Marks and Mawein), and a New Zealander (McRae).
Patrick quoted – “Kiir gives us tremendous versatility as a striker, and his size, length and athleticism will be huge assets. His experience at the All-Academy NBA Bridge will get him competitive right away as a freshman. We’re excited to welcome him to our Sacramento State Basketball Family.”

• Over 70 NBA Academy participants have committed to the NCAA Div. My schools include Josh Giddey, who was sixth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft and currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
• Chol graduated from high school in 2021 (Apex Learning Virtual School).
