Warning: Spoiler ahead
After a reasonably average Phase Four, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has lost steam after squeezing out six movies, nine TV series, and a Marvel Studios Special Presentation. Looking ahead to the tenth and final film of the period, Marvel needs a solid win to fuel hopes of returning to world domination. Director Ryan Coogler returns to Wakanda to Black Panther: Wakanda forever and created one of the five best Marvel movies ever.
Wakanda Forever continues after the departure of T’Challa the Black Panther, which Marvel decided to do following the sudden departure of actor Chadwick Boseman. This film focuses on the trauma left in Wakanda following the death of T’Challa, especially his sister Shuri and his mother, Queen Ramonda. It also introduces a parallel hidden nation, Talocan, ruled by Namor, played by Tenoch Huerta, which also wielded Vibranium.
When Black Panther’s throne was vacated, Namor attacked Wakanda, plunging the two nations into a conflict that led to total war. The void left by Black Panther’s departure reflects the NBA’s current parity. With the defending champion Golden State Warriors getting off to a slow start, the NBA is wide open for a new champion. We drew parallels between the heroes and villains of Wakanda forever with a host of current NBA superstars to play as the players who most closely resemble the film’s dynamic cast of characters.
