Netflix sequel Gore & Guts Fest – The Hollywood Reporter

As every horror movie fan knows all too well, you can’t keep a good villain. New sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre follow the path of the same reboot Halloween essentially skipping over the other films in the series (there are eight, for those who don’t count, including the not-so-well-received 2003 remake) and reverting to the original.

Sometimes, this effort premieres on Netflix also follow the path of Halloween, by presenting as a major plot element the return of an emotionally scarred female survivor who bears many similarities to Laurie Strode. However, fans of slasher movies should embrace this Texas Chainsaw Massacre, pays a loving homage to the original through a variety of Easter Eggs and is completely free of gore. Seriously, there’s so much blood on the screen that you’ll want to wear a poncho if you’re sitting too close.

After a nostalgic introduction narrated by John Larroquette, who has done similar work in the original and remake, we are introduced to a quartet of young people who may also have the following goals. back: Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage years. sister Lila (Elsie Fisher, graduate from Eighth grade), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Neil Hudson). City flickers to a small Texas town – so desolate that one of the The last picture shown seems like a budding metropolis – where Melody and Dante inexplicably hope to start a business.

Unfortunately, their newly acquired building is the site of an abandoned orphanage, with a tattered Confederate flag waving outside. Upon entering, they meet an elderly woman (Alice Krige, whose horror film certificate stretches back to 1981). Ghost story), who offers them sweet tea. Just then, a giant figure (Mark Burnham, filling the extra-large shoes of his late predecessor in the role, Gunnar Hansen) briefly appeared at the top of the stairs. “He was my last son,” the old woman explained.

Yes, and that’s also you know, now much older but not less dangerous to kill. This soon became apparent when the old woman had a stroke and died in a police car on her way to the hospital. Leatherface quickly sent two policemen and one of the newbies along for the ride, and continued his previous grooming routine by cutting the skin on his mother’s face to use as a mask.

This is the first of many bloodbaths as Leatherface retrieves his favorite chainsaw, hunting down everyone who crosses his path. The body count quickly increased, the highlight being a massacre in a bus full of partygoers in which director David Blue Garcia (Tejano) actually let his monstrous flag fly. The beheading and escape scenes are rendered vividly like the killer movie equivalent of an orgy.

Fans of the original film will welcome the reappearance of Leatherface’s original killing lone survivor, Sally Hardesty, played by veteran Irish actress Olwen Fouere (Marilyn Burns, Sally). original, passed away in 2014). Sally, who regularly looks at a faint Polaroid photo of her murdered friends, clearly doesn’t mind the waste. Seeking revenge after nearly half a century, she grabs a shotgun and heads off in pursuit of her former tormentor, who, when they finally reunite, doesn’t even recognize her.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre doesn’t exactly provide anything new (in 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D, an earlier attempt at a sequel to the original, is at least more one-sided), but gorehound fans excited to watch people’s organs fall out of their bodies will see plenty respectable thing. They might be disappointed, however, as Leatherface meets a grim fate at the end of the film, meaning he’ll never return.

(Spoiler alert). Just kidding, he’s fine!
