Netflix to God’s Country from Sweet Tooth’s Jim Mickle – The Hollywood Reporter
Netflix is on board Kingdom of God, Legendary and AfterShock Media adapted the comic books written by Donny Cates.
Jim Mickle, Netflix instant hit co-creator and presenter Sweet teeth, is set to direct the fantasy film and is co-writing the screenplay with Cates.
The deal puts Legendary back in business with Netflix, the company previously chose Enola Holmes, Legendary’s teen adventure starring Millie Bobby Brown became a huge hit among streamers.
Legendary’s Mary Parent and Ali Mendes and AfterShock’s Lee Kramer and Jon Kramer are producing. Mickle and Linda Moran, his partners at the duo’s Nightshade banner, will also produce.
nation tells the story of Emmet Quinlan, an elderly widow with dementia and violent outbursts. When a tornado hits his West Texas town, Quinlan finds himself rejuvenated thanks to an enchanted sword he finds in the rubble, but now he must use it to protect his family and what left of the town before the terrifying creatures of the other world seeking its power.
Cates, who is perhaps best known for his popular work on various Marvel movies Venom comics, wrote the six-volume series with art handling Geoff Shaw. Published in 2017 by Image Comics, the first issue went through four prints before being collected as a commercial paperback.
District now join a Holmes anime sequel and adaptation Gundam is a partnership between Legendary and Netflix.
Mickle has evolved Sweet teeth, adapted it from Jeff Lemire’s Vertigo comic book series and directed four episodes of the seven-episode first season for Netflix. The show was renewed for a second season this summer. He previously co-created Hap and Leonard for SundanceTV and directed In the shadow of the moon, a Netflix thriller starring Boyd Holbrook and Michael C. Hall.
