New Orleans man accused of kidnapping and carjacking arrested
Authorities arrested a man for allegedly stealing a car with a baby inside from the parking lot of a Chalmette business on Wednesday. Johnathon Perkins, 21, of 4900 Lafaye Street in New Orleans, has been charged with motor vehicle theft, second-degree kidnapping, child neglect and unlawful possession of stolen property. When he realized there was a baby in the car, he allegedly dumped the 1-year-old on the curb. This happened at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The car was stolen outside a business in the 5300 block of rue Paris in Chalmette. Delegates were able to locate the unharmed and healthy toddler sitting by the side of the road on the Almonaster Avenue overpass in New Orleans. During the investigation, SBSO Criminal Investigation Department detectives were able to identify Perkins through video surveillance evidence, and an arrest warrant was issued by SBSO and the State Police, officials said. , at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 30, near 4:30 p.m., near Avon Park Avenue and Morrison Street in eastern New Orleans.

Delegates were able to locate the unharmed and healthy toddler sitting by the side of the road on the Almonaster Avenue overpass in New Orleans. This vehicle was also found abandoned in New Orleans near the Desire Street overpass, still driving with its hazard lights flashing.
Officials said that during the investigation, SBSO Criminal Investigation Department detectives were able to identify Perkins through video surveillance evidence and an arrest warrant was issued for him.
Perkins was arrested by SBSO and State Police around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 30 near Avon Park Avenue and Morrison Street east of New Orleans by SBSO and State Police.
