Nexus waitlist reaches nearly 300K as Canadian offices still closed: CBSA – National
Canada backlog Nexus Applications have grown in the hundreds of thousands, despite a sharp drop in the number of applicants during the pandemic.
The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) says more than 295,000 Nexus applications are still pending due to office closures prompted by COVID-19.
Cardholders who will be cardholders in a program that allows pre-approved Canadians to travel through separate, fast lanes when traveling to the United States, must be risk assessed by both CBSA and US Customs and Border Protection.
The US agency reopened Nexus enrollment centers to interview applicants on April 19, but the centers in Canada remained closed after closing in March 2020.
The resulting backlog means some Nexus members are struggling to get a reservation before their card expires, as Canadians hoping to renew their status can only schedule interviews at less. a dozen border community offices where there are very few locations.
In an email, the CBSA said Canada and the United States were discussing when to reopen Canada’s admissions centers.
