NFL Draft 2022 Outlook: Malik Willis, Bailey Zappe and 10 More Players To Watch In First College Football Games

Bowl season isn’t just for college football enthusiasts who can’t watch enough marathon games. NFL fans can also get a glimpse of some of the future pro stars playing their last games for the shows.

The 2021 college post-season game offers some intrigue, starting with a busy opening weekend. Here are the best prospects to watch during the action, including the two ranked midfielders in the top 100 on Sporting News ‘updated in 2022 NFL Draft big table:

THAN: SN’s latest 2022 NFL 1st round test draft

Bahamas Bowl: Middle Tennessee vs Toledo (Friday, noon ET, ESPN)

Reed Blankenship, S, Middle Tennessee (6-1, 204 pounds)

Blankenship will probably be selected by the end of 2021. He is a strong and aggressive defender with natural toughness and good leadership skills. He does too many plays with sound fundamentals to be exceptional to not be considered a valuable swing fallback in the NFL.

Cure Bowl: Northern Illinois vs. Coastal Carolina (Friday, 6 p.m. ET, ESPN2)

Isaiah Capable, TE, Coast Carolina (6-4, 240 pounds)

Likely had a great season in Chanticleers offense, catching 52 passes for 816 yards and 10 TDs. He’s enjoying success as a strong Day 3 ride because he’s a versatile receiver who can shine when running a full route but is also comfortable working inline.

Jeffrey Gunter, EDGE, Coastal Carolina (6-4, 260 pounds)

Gunter is working on getting final consideration as a dynamic situational promoter. He has 5.5 sacks going into the match. Just like Lilions, his attraction is his ability to line up horizontally in many positions with many ways to move.

Boca Raton Bowl: Western Kentucky vs. Appalachian State (Saturday, 11 a.m. ET, ESPN)

Bailey Zappe, QB, Western Kentucky (6-1, 220 ponds)

Zappe had a prolific first season with the Hilltoppers jumping into the FBS competition. He continues to do his best to rewrite major pass records through volume, accuracy, and a quick release in a system like “Air Raid”. He’ll be looking to draw more attention to his accuracy and arms to take part in the Day 3 review.

Bowl Celebration: South Carolina State vs Jackson State (Saturday, Noon ET, ABC)

Shedeur Sanders, QB, Jackson State (6-2, 215 pounds)

There are a lot of future college and NFL rumors about a notable grandson, Arch Manning. But it is rapid progress from the son of Deion Sanders, who is also the leader of his impressive HBCU program. Sanders is a freshman, so he’s not eligible to draft in 2022, but Jerry Rice Award winner Jerry Rice is happy to watch and eyes big things as a potential draft pick near adjacent.

BANKING TEAM: College Pool Bowl Strategy | Choose the value of Bowl Pool

New Mexico Bowl: UTEP vs. Fresno State (Saturday 2:15 p.m. ET, ESPN)

Ronnie Rivers, RB, Fresno State (5-9, 195 pounds)

Rivers is an elusive little defender and a good passer, making him ideal for a third and change of pace role in the NFL to be effective on a larger-than-life committee.

Jalen Cropper, WR, State of Fresno (6-0, 173)

Cropper has become an exceptional owner for the Bulldogs with his great hands, ability to run the line and work in the reds, with 11 TDs in his 76 receptions. He could continue his climb in Day 2 by better showing off his underrated turf speed.

Independent Bowl: UAB vs. BYU (Saturday 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC)

Gerrit Prince, TE, UAB (6-5, 240 pounds)

Prince is a late prospect with the potential to gain points thanks to his big-game flair and some wide-receiver hybrid appeal.

Tyler Allgeier, RB, BYU (5-11, 220 pounds)

Allgeier is being considered in midfield thanks to his strong running ability but he also has the flexibility to be on the field in passing situations.

LendingTree Bowl: Eastern Michigan vs. Liberty (Saturday 5:45 p.m. ET ESPN)

Malik Willis, QB, Liberty (6-1, 215 pounds)

Willis made some mistakes with his massive passing and lunging stats for the Flames but the physical skills of his strong arms and prolific fitness consistently showed incredible lights. He’s a first-rounder, but he has a range of results from table-top QB all the way to fifth.

Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl: Wyoming vs Oregon State (Saturday 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC)

Deven Thompkins, WR, Wyoming (5-8, 155 pounds)

Thompkins is having a prolific regular season with 96 catches, 1,589 yards and 9 TDs. He will try to attract more attention as a versatile professional compact handwasher at the crucial time.

New Orleans Bowl: Louisiana vs. Marshall (Saturday, 9:15 p.m. ET ESPN)

Max Mitchell, OT, Louisiana (6-6, 297 pounds)

Mitchell is an exceptional athlete who makes good use of his footwork to defend an excellent pass. Rising Ragin’ Cajun will be participating in the Senior Bowl and its activities to help increase his stock. He has good work ethic and dedication and should continue to improve all-round.
