NFL Network Encrypted Language for Comparison Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy

Image for article titled NFL Network Graphics Indicating Brock Purdy Is Smarter Than Dak Prescott Is A Bad Look

I understand that the content that must be continuously shoveled into the oven is called a 24-hour news cycle. That’s a lot of firewood to keep the fire going, especially when dealing with live TV. All that being said, what Total NFL Counter did in comparison Dak Prescott arrive Brock Purdy looks disrespectful and glitters with internal racism.

What went viral on social media was a still image from Wednesday night’s show. In one segment, Mike Yam, Thomas Davis and Michael Robinson are comparing Purdy and Prescott ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers playoffs. For viewers who don’t know that one quarterback is Black and the other is white, all they have to do is look at the screen in the background. And I’m not talking about the picture of both signalers.

Comparison”

A rookie was selected in the seventh round – Mr. Irelevant – according to this segment, is both more poised and a better decision maker than a veteran quarterback in his eighth season, who won two playoffs and won two Pro Bowls. However, in the athletics category – arm strength and mobility – the Black veteran received the nod. I guess if the manufacturers had put agility in the final category instead of making decisions, then Prescott would have won this segment’s time award.

Who’s to blame?

After watching entire segment, I came to the conclusion that can be blamed on both sides. A third of that belongs to the manufacturers. I know they need as many segments as possible to fill the airtime, but they also need better judgment when it comes to optics. Given what was given to analysts to quickly create a segment on live television, the undesirable outcome of a white quarterback being called smart and a very athletic black midfielder chance to happen.

The remaining two-thirds belonged to Davis. The former NFL All-Pro has frankly said on national television that Purdy is more poised than Prescott. Davis’ excuse was that Purdy was thrown into a big situation and told not to mess it up, and the young man made a few mistakes. Davis also gives Purdy an edge in decision-making as Prescott is leading the league in interceptions.

Just as impressive was the fact that Purdy kept the 49ers’ car on the road, but not that he was forced to navigate any sharp turns. Prescott was forced to drive a Cowboys car with significantly less stability and horsepower, but was still expected to win. Swap these two quarterbacks and the 49ers are the No 1 seed, while Purdy’s six games may have kept the Cowboys out of the knockout stages. At least they will get drunk in their wild card game.

Perhaps a small part of the blame Davis deserves should also be on Robinson. He’s the one who helped Purdy excel in accuracy. Robinson argues that Kyle Shanahan arranges his wide receivers so wide that the throw is not difficult.

The one who came out of this dizzying viral moment unharmed was Yam. He said twice during the segment, “I can’t believe we’re having this conversation.”

That should have been the thought as soon as someone presented this idea. If the production team still feels the need to get on with it that’s fine, but backup safety measures should be in place. Specifically, something that wouldn’t allow a segment to end with a white rookie quarterback being called smarter than a black one, and it’s highlighted in red.

Also, Thomas Davis, do better.
