Ng: Some Senators Not Ready to Vote for Buy US Tax Credit

OTTAWA – Canada’s Commerce Minister says the fight is not over to prevent the Biden administration’s Electric Vehicle Purchase tax credit from becoming a reality.

“I am meeting with senators on either side of the aisle. They definitely let me know that they’re not ready to vote on this yet,” Mary Ng told Joyce Napier on CTV’s Power Play Friday channel.

“There are still some runways to operate,” she said.

Ng spoke to Napier from Washington, where she and a cross-party delegation of congressmen are meeting with US lawmakers to fight against the Buy America provision.

The Biden administration has announced a broad budget that includes a $12,500 tax credit for American-made electric vehicles.

“I had about six meetings with the senators,” Ng told CTV’s Power Play.

She said Canadian officials had about 50 meetings with their American counterparts.
