NHL builder Ken Holland to get Vernon’s Freedom of the City award


A Canadian Hockey Corridor of Fame inductee is now getting a nod from his hometown.

Vernon metropolis council will honour Ken Holland, common supervisor of the Edmonton Oilers, with the Freedom of the Metropolis award. He’s the twenty first recipient of the award.

“He has had a protracted and prestigious profession as GM of the Detroit Pink Wings and now GM of the Edmonton Oilers. He has received the Stanley Cup 4 occasions and Olympic Gold twice,” Mayor Victor Cumming mentioned in a press launch.

A particular ceremony is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. in Vernon council chambers.

Freedom of the Metropolis is the best civic tribute bestowed by the Metropolis of Vernon, by unanimous determination of metropolis council. The honour is awarded to a distinguished individual or a distinguished unit of the armed forces of Canada or one other nation.

Holland was inducted into the Hockey Corridor of Fame within the Builder class in 2020.

Holland was born Nov. 10, 1955, and was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1975. In accordance with his Corridor of Fame bio, as a goaltender, he achieved his personal objectives by enjoying one sport with the Hartford Whalers through the 1980-81 season and three extra with the Detroit Pink Wings in 1983-84.

He retired from enjoying in 1985, then joined the Pink Wings as a Western Canada scout. He held just a few roles with that group and in 1997, the Pink Wings chosen Holland as their common supervisor, including the manager vice-presidency of the group as properly.

Holland joined the Oilers in Could 2019 as that group’s common supervisor.
