No Ottawa locations on the initial list of COVID-19 rapid test locations pop up
There are no locations in Ottawa on the initial list of pop-up locations across Ontario that offer rapid COVID-19 antigen testing before the holiday.
The Ontario government launched a “holiday test flash” on Wednesday afternoon, with up to two million quick tests offered for free at pop-up checkpoints in high-traffic settings. and at some LCBO stores.
Pop-up teams will be deployed at locations across the province, giving free home antigen rapid test kits, depending on supply needs.
According to an initial list of 29 pop-ups at malls, community centers and farmers markets, no pop-ups are planned for Ottawa.
The closest is in Kingston at the Rideau Heights Community Center on MacCauley Street on a Saturday.
Government officials told CTV News Ottawa that there are 10 locations in Ottawa awaiting local approval, including in malls and downtown.
In a statement on Twitter, Premier Doug Ford’s Executive Director of Media Relations Ivana Yelich said, “We are working with our local partners, (Public Health Unit) and members city to identify specific sites based on local data and needs. We are awaiting approval from multiple locations.”
The province said take-home rapid tests will be available at some LCBO stores, starting with the busiest stores this week, and more stores will be added in the coming days, the province said.
