Northwest Wisconsin homes briefly evacuated due to massive grass fire – WCCO
BURNETT COUNTY, Wis. (WCCO) – A large grass fire in northwestern Wisconsin on Saturday briefly prompted the evacuation of homes.
The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office said the fire, which burned between Lake Switzerland Town and Lake Webb Town, has since been extinguished. The fire broke out in an area about 65 miles south of Duluth.

At the request of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the sheriff’s office said it had issued evacuation notices to several homes in the area while crews battled the blaze. The evacuation order has been lifted.

As of Saturday night, teams were still working to fix the hot spots. Residents are asked to avoid the area.
Earlier in the day, Wisconsin officials issued fire warnings for several counties in the state, saying dry conditions, high winds and low humidity make the risk of wildfires particularly high.
