Andrey Medvedev, who is seeking asylum in the Nordic country, could be deported to Russia, a human rights group has warned.

A veteran with Wagner Corporation, who had recently fled to Norway to seek asylum, was arrested.

According to Gulagu.net, a Russian human rights group helped him escape, Andrey Medvedev face the possibility of being deported back to Russia.

Jon Andreas Johansen, a police official in charge of immigration affairs, told The Associated Press on Monday that the 26-year-old was arrested on suspicion of entering the country without documents.

“People are assessing whether he should be remanded in custody,” Johansen said.

Medvedev arrived in Norway from neighboring Russia on January 13, seeking shelter in the Nordic country.

This shady paramilitary organization has close ties to the Kremlin and was heavily involved in the Russian invasion.

Gulagu.net, which campaigns for prisoners’ rights and has been in contact with Medvedev since he fled, said he was detained and handcuffed on Sunday night and was told he would be taken there. a detention center for later deportation.

There is no confirmation from Norwegian authorities of any plans to deport him.

Gulagu.net said Medvedev would face “brutal murder and death” for speaking out against Wagner if he was returned to Russia.

“We do not whitewash Medvedev. He has done many bad things in his life,” the rights group said.

“But he has seen the light, he has realized this, he is ready and willing to cooperate with the world, with the international investigation and with the Norwegian authorities, he wants to live and work. evidence” against Wagner and founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, it added.

Medvedev was an orphan who joined the Russian military and served time in prison before joining the Wagner Group last July on a four-month contract.

He claims Wagner has repeatedly extended his contract without his consent.
