November 17, 2021 Paul Gosar votes to censor House of AOC and Biden videos
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer urges other lawmakers to vote “yes” on the resolution censor GOP Representative Paul Gosar, saying it’s not about partisan politics, but about “decency” and “security for our members.”
Hoyer argued that the vote was about the “rule of law” and that “no one, Democrat or Republican should engage in promoting violence against another member or indeed an American. “
“We know where the glorification and promotion of violence leads, we’ve seen this year, years ago, piercing tweets become sharp knives. Hot words bring guns to death. people and killing animations really lead to bloodshed,” the House majority leader said in a speech on the floor.
His comments come after some Republican lawmakers accused Democrats of keeping double standards and not reacting to members of their own party in the same way.
“I’m sure my Democrats will do the same because this isn’t about partisan. It’s not about politics. It’s not about partisan. It’s about elegance, courtesy. safety, and yes, the rule of law,” Hoyer said.
Hoyer also argued that as elected officials, lawmakers “speak for the American people.” This means that their actions must reflect “the highest standards of American society.”
“It’s disgusting, madam speaker, whenever someone in the world posts content that threatens violence or hatred, but when a family member does so – no matter how you rationalize it like, no matter how much you try to beautify that pig – it’s a threat of violence,” Hoyer said. “What Representative Gosar did last week is not only reprehensible, but demanding.”
“I urge my colleagues to vote yes on both sides of the aisle. To maintain a standard must be important to all of us,” Hoyer said in the conclusion.
