NWT: RCMP says fatal stabbing suspect has been arrested

YELLOW –

The RCMP in the Northwest Territories said that the suspect in the triple stabbing at Fort Good Hope was arrested Thursday night “without any incident.”

One person died in Tuesday night’s attack and two others were seriously injured. They are still in the hospital in stable condition.

Supt. Jeffrey Christie said Thaddeus McNeely, 24, surrendered to police and was arrested at a community residence at 5:45pm

“With no ongoing risk at the moment, the RCMP does not feel there is anyone else as a safety risk in the community,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, Mounties said McNeely was the sole suspect.

Christie said while police anticipate filing a complaint, the investigation into the attack and McNeely’s whereabouts over the past 48 hours is continuing.

“The Northwest Territories RCMP leadership team would like to acknowledge the strong support of community leaders to keep them and work with them through the investigation,” he said.

“Their enthusiastic support of our officers has been greatly appreciated.”

Mounties went door-to-door in this remote community of about 500 people to speak to residents and potential witnesses.

Police from Alberta and British Columbia are also involved in the investigation.

The RCMP has asked residents with any information about their investigation to contact police.
