NXP reveals its latest processor, i.MX 91, during Computex

During today’s Computex, Dutch semiconductor giant NXP announced i.MX 91latest processor from the i.MX 9 series of application processors for industrial, medical, consumer and IoT use cases.

During his keynote, NXP Secure Connected Edge executive vice president and general manager Rafael Sotomayor gave some details about the new processor. Features include the Cortex-M7 chi8p 800MHz for real-time control and the Cortex-M33 for network management, plus built-in Gbps that supports time-sensitive industrial and network protocols. It is secured by NPX’s EdgeLock Secure Enclave and features functional secure software libraries.

The use case for the i.MX 91 is smart factories. The I.MX 91 is at the heart of NPX’s industrial platform for smart factories and connects EdgeLock, among others, NXP’s PF5020 (the company’s multichannel device for industrial and high performance) and NXP’s N-Afe user interface, which runs the sensors and actuators.

Another example of how the iMX 91 can be used is the smart home. The i.MX/MCU series can be combined with NXP’s monolithic IW612 trio of radios to integrate radios in Matter, its connectivity standard designed to help smart home devices communicate with each other.

The i.MX 91 series is part of the NXP product life extension program, which ensures that eligible products will be available for at least 10 years, with participating products designated for development in the automotive, telecommunications and medical segments to be available for at least 15 years . i.MX 91 incorporates Arm Cortex-A55 processor cores and is integrated with EdgeLock Secure Enclave.
