‘Obit Bandit’ was sentenced to 11-13 years in prison for burglary when the victim went to the funeral
A Bronx woman dubbed the “Obit Bandit” was sentenced to 11-13 years in prison.
Last month, Latonia Stewart was found guilty of burglarizing six homes in Westchester while the victims attended funerals for their loved ones.
Authorities said the thefts occurred between 2017 and 2018.
Prosecutors said Stewart would look up the obituary while the funeral was in progress and find the home address and assault the burial when no one was home.
Most of the widows lost heirlooms and jewelry, and prosecutors say they found some of them in Stewart’s car and apartment. They say a lot of items are still missing.
She faces 15 years in prison on each count, a maximum of 90 years in total.
Stewart also faces charges in Connecticut for another funeral theft she is accused of running into.
